Southern Connecticut Association of MDS Nurse Assessment Coordinators, founded by Lisa Morell LPN, RAI-C assists our members and Connecticut colleagues in achieving our common goal --- quality resident care.
Quality outcomes are measured with the Minimum Data Set (MDS), our industry tool for implementing assessment and for facilitating care management for our residents in the Long Term Care setting. The accuracy of its content has a significant role in resident care and impact on facility outcome and will:
- trigger resident issues to guide effective care plan development
- quantify resident care needs to project facility staffing levels
- determine daily and continuing reimbursement for resident care
- calculate "measures"—used by consumers, policy makers and surveyors—to rate and rank care "quality" drive your facility Quality Indicator Survey
The Long Term Care Industry, as well as all healthcare sectors, faces continual challenges and changes. Proper coding of each MDS item—as defined by the RAI manual (Resident Assessment Instrument)—ensures accurate and reliable results. Clinicians must obtain, follow, and implement new definitions and guidelines as they become available.
